Give the Gift of Literacy When: 10 Dec 2019 DO YOU REMEMBER YOUR FAVOURITE BOOK AS A CHILD? If, like me, you have been fortunate enough that books have always been part of your life; you might find it hard to pick just one! I remember how much I loved reading and the joy I took from discovering a new adventure, different characters and being transported into another world. I was lucky… UNFORTUNATELY, THOUSANDS OF AUSTRALIAN CHILDREN DO NOT HAVE THIS EXPERIENCE. One in three children in disadvantaged communities starts school developmentally vulnerable*, and the gap between the language-rich and the language-poor grows over time. We know that literacy sparks growing imaginations, stimulates critical thinking and helps children to develop empathy. It gives children the very skills they need to succeed at school, at work and in life. THIS IS WHY ARDOCH’S LITERACY PROGRAMS ARE SO CRITICAL. These programs connect children in our partner schools and early years services with trained volunteers who support their literacy development, improve their school readiness and help ensure they stay engaged in school. These programs are important for children as they enhance students’ literacy and language skills, build confidence in their own voice and encourage their aspirations for creativity, story-telling and writing. OUR PROGRAMS ARE MAKING A REAL DIFFERENCE. In 2019, Ardoch’s Literacy Programs have been delivered in 125 partner schools and early years services and supported over 5000 children living in disadvantaged communities around Australia. WITH YOUR SUPPORT, WE CAN CONTINUE TO IMPROVE LITERACY OUTCOMES FOR CHILDREN IN DISADVANTAGED COMMUNITIES. Please give the gift of literacy so children can discover new worlds, develop their imagination, engage in learning and experience the true joy of going on their next adventure. THANK YOU FOR YOU INCREDIBLE SUPPORT. Kylee Bates Ardoch CEO * Australian Early Development Census 2015
